Summary: | This study aims at creating an integrated design of building material laboratory for Teacher Education Institutes (TEIs) in higher education of vocational and aca-demic program to support effective and efficient learning process. The design de-velopment of the building materials lab is in the form of a floor plan drawing oc-cupied for 20 students. This research belongs to a development study using the ADDIE model. The design of the laboratory drawing was done by reviewing the existing standards and conducting a survey in (1) Vocational Colledge of Univer-sitas Gajah Mada; (2) Department of Civil Engineering in Universitas Sebelas Maret; (3) Department of Civil Engineering and Planning Education in Universi-tas Negeri Yogyakarta to gain information as reference materials. The material contents of the Building Materials Practicum were obtained from the lab coordi-nator. The design draft was discussed through Focus Group Discussion (FGD) involving (1) the lab coordinators of the TEIs building materials; (2) industrial parties of construction service; and (3) architects with laboratory development expertise. The research results revealed that (1) the practice course contents of building materials in the TEIs of Vocational and Academic program were testing sand, gravel, cement, bricks, light bricks, paving blocks, wood, concrete reinforc-ing steel, light steel and concrete technology; (2) the 2-story laboratory floor plan that was developed has a total area of 387 m2, all of which are integrated into one area. |
