Summary: | Data on 18 (9 each of 6- and 9-month-old) uncastrated male goat of Berari breed were analyzed to study the association of body weight, body, measurements and its relation to carcass quality characteristics. The goat were selected and purchased from the local goat keepers of Kalamana and Bhiwapur Tehsils of Nagpur district. Pre-slaughter body weight was recorded early in the morning on empty stomach. The body measurements were taken with the help of measuring tape. The animal was starved overnight but they were provided fresh drinking water before slaughter. Slaughtering was performed according to local halal method during 1 Jan 2000 to 20 Feb 2000. The correlation of body weight with body length was highly significant (0.08), whereas correlation between heart girth(0.52)and abdominal girth (0.76) for 6 months of age were high but nonsignificant. However, the correlation of body weight with abdominal girth (0.72) was observed to be highly significant for 9 months of age, whereas, association of heart girth and distance between pin bones (0.51 and 0.54) were high, positive but nonsignificant for 9 months of age. |
