Summary: | Response of two sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum L.) varieties viz., SPSG-26 and SPSG-394 to planting times of 20th September, 30th September, 10th October, 20th October and 30th October was studied under field conditions during 1995-96. The planting time significantly influenced the cane yield and growth parameters, like millable canes m- 2, cane length and weight-cane 1. Sucrose contents and commercial cane sugar per cent were also influenced significantly by planting time and maximum values were recorded in cane planted on 20th September. Both varieties SPSG-26 and SPSG- 394 have statistically similar cane yield, quality and all parameters recorded except millable canes m-2 and cane girth, which were significantly higher in SPSG-304 and SPSG- 26, respectively. For getting higher tonnage of cane having good quality, the variety SPSG-26 should be preferred and it must be planted from 20th September to 10th October. |
