Description
Summary:The anamorph-teleomorph relationships of basidiomycetous yeasts of the genera Rhodotorula and Rhodosporidium are described from the viewpoint of chemosystematics. A considerable number of strains with mating types of Rhodosporidium species were inferred in Rhodotorula strains from a comparison of chemosystematic information such as DNA base composition, quinone systems, zymograms, cellular carbohydrate composition, and DNA-relatedness, and this decisively confirmed the anamorph-teleomorph relationships indicated by cell conjugation. The usefulness of chemosystematic data for the study of anamorph-teleomorph relationships of yeasts is emphasized by these results.
