Summary: | Some expect a shakeout in the crowded ASP market because not all ASPs are capable of moving beyond the most basic business needs. Old-line companies such as Automated Data Processing, which has helped companies outsource payroll for years, are moving to offer ASP services even as pure-play ASPs rush to reposition themselves as business service providers. Pure ASPs increasingly partner with companies like ADP to leverage expertise in professional business services. ADP is working with USinternetworking and Qwest Cyber.Solutions as well as Corio Inc, which also has a strategic relationship with Ernst & Young. Partnering lets an ASP greatly expand its services and reach a far large customer base. Integration is one of the most compelling reasons for BSPs to move to partnerships because it is a crucial market differentiator. The difficulty of integrating different packaged, standalone and proprietary applications hosted by ASPs remains problematic. |
