Summary: | American eels, Anguilla rostrata, exhibited two forms of behavior that have not been observed in previous studies. First, American eels showed casting, a zigzag swimming pattern perpendicular to the mean flow of the odor plumes. Filament tracking was the second behavior observed in American eels in response to the odor plume. It was suggested that a chemosensory input enables these organisms to modify rheotaxic response to odor. |
