Description
Summary:This paper is part of a larger project about the essential characteristics of the academic domain. The main purpose is to identify interactivity markers in texts, using data from two academic genres, academic chats and memorials. It is known that these markers fulfill several discursive functions but this study focuses on the most productive markers in the data, i.e., those intended to save the author's face. The theoretical framework incorporates concepts from different approaches. Interactivity markers depend on the factors that influence peoples dynamic perceptions of the event in which they are engaged. Keywords: academic genres; markers of interactivity; politeness and face.
