Description
Summary:The luminescent, optical, and scintillation characteristics of polycrystalline samples prepared by hot pressing crushed stilbene with different initial grain sizes were investigated. The light output and optical transmission were enhanced when the grain size increased. Additional peaks in the radio-luminescence spectra that corresponded to traps of depth ΔE 12  = 0.13–0.16 eV and ΔE 13,14  = 0.18–0.28 eV were found. Structural exciton traps of such depth can occur at single-crystal grain boundaries. The intensity of the additional peak increased with decreasing initial grain size, i.e., with an increase of the total interface area.
