Summary: | Phosphorus-containing charcoals were obtained by modification of coconut shell activated charcoal by phosphoric acid at 400-900 °C under a stream of moist air. We show that with a rise in modification temperature, the catalytic activity of the charcoals increases in the reaction of ethyl acetate hydrolysis, which is due to formation of thermally stable strongly acidic groups on their surface, an increase in the dissociation constant of such groups, the number of groups and their accessibility to reagents. The catalytic activity of charcoals modified by phosphoric acid is higher than for oxidized charcoal. |
