Prominent concepts on this issue include internalization, identification, incorporation and introjection. However, from the days those concepts suggested until today there has been no consensus on boundaries between them. Thus, these concepts sometimes seem to be used interchangeably or understood as defense mechanisms. In this paper we tried to give comprehensive information about these concepts in terms of their historical development and contend. Dis dunyayi algilama, bu algilarin icsel temsilcilerini insa etme ve dissal olaylara yonelik ortak icsel deneyimlerimizi aciklamak icin sayisiz teoriler ve kavramlar gelistirilmistir. En cok uzerinde durulan kavramlar; icsellestirme (internalizasyon), ozdesim (identifikasyon), icealim (inkorporasyon) ve iceatim (introjeksiyon) olmustur. Bununla birlikte bu kavramlarin ortaya atildigi donemden bu yana icerikleri ile ilgili kesin cizgilerin olusmadigi gozukmektedir. Bu kavramlar zaman zaman birbirlerinin yerine kullanilabilen, zaman zaman da birer savunma mekanizmalari gibi anlasilabilen ic ice gecmis tanimlar gibi gozukmektedir.
