Summary:This essay places Robert Musil's poetics and his Die Vollendung der Liebe in the context of an empirical approach to the transcendental. Scientists around Musil as well as he himself were approaching Immanuel Kant's forms of human intuition like space, time and causality in an empirical way. Therefore the relationship between human beings and reality had to be reshaped. According to Musil, human beings and reality have to adapt in order to gain a dynamic balance. Forms of human intuition are not stable, but have evolved over time and are still in a constant process of adaptation. This is shown by a reading of Bemerkungen über Apperceptor and Ansätze zu neuer Ästhetik. In Die Vollendung der Liebe Musil sketches a character who tries to gain emotional balance. Space, time and causality are affected in this struggle.
