Summary:Five solvates, [[Cd[Br.sub.2](DMF)].sub.n], [[Cd[Br.sub.2](DMA)].sub.n], [[Cd[I.sub.2](DMF)].sub.n], [[Cd(DMF).sub.6]][[Cd.sub.2][I.sub.6]], and [{[Cd[(DMA).sub.6]][[[Cd.sub.5][I.sub.12]].sub.n]}.sub.m], were isolated from the ternary systems Cd[X.sub.2]-L-[H.sub.2]O (X = Br, I; L = N,N-dimethyl-acetamide, N,N-dimethylformamide) and characterized by the X-ray single crystal analysis. The structures of the first three solvates is similar to each other in structures and represent a one-dimensional polymer chain, the fourth solvate has the discrete structure containing [[Cd[(DMF).sub.6]].sup.2+] and [[[Cd.sub.2][I.sub.6]].sup.2-] ions, and the fifth solvate contains discrete [[Cd[(DMA).sub.6]].sup.2+] cations and the polymer anionic fragment [[Cd.sub.5][I.sub.12]].sup.2n-.sub.n].
