Description
Summary:Objective: to analyze the particularities and changes that have occurred in female entrepreneurship in Brazil in ten years, exploring the information presented by the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) survey in the years 2009 and 2019. Design/methodology/approach: descriptive and exploratory research using secondary data provided by the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) in the years 2009 and 2019, comparing them with data presented by SEBRAE, IBGE and Instituto Rede Mulher Empreendedora (IRME), whose analyzes took place through help of Excel spreadsheets and graphs. Results: Brazil showed growth in the main entrepreneurship rates, one of them being the Total Entrepreneurship Rate (TTE), which increased by 10%, giving the country good rankings among other countries. It was observed that women have a lower percentage in the rate of established entrepreneurship, which shows the short life span in businesses led by women, which can be explained by numerous factors ranging from social to financial and highlights the need for support policies and encouraging female entrepreneurship. Research limitations: it was identified that most of the data presented refers to general entrepreneurship, demonstrating the absence of more specific data on female entrepreneurship. Originality: the study promotes the discussion on the need to adopt a committed posture of stimulating and generating favorable conditions for the flourishing of female entrepreneurship in Brazil due to the many historical obstacles related to the social position of women. Keywords: Entrepreneurship. Women. GEM. Undertake. Changes.
