The characteristics of the intellectual capital model for the research process in Higher Education institutions of the City of Cartagena are described. Research with a quantitative, positivist, analytical approach, field designs, in a non-experimental, transversal or transactional way, descriptive type. The study population group is made up of vice-rectories of the research area, coordination's, headquarters or leaders of the research area, who are in charge of the management and viability of the research processes in 7 universities of Cartagena de Indias, survey, an instrument was used with alternatives of closed Likert-type answers, the Statistics of the data was Descriptive systematized in Microsoft Excel, SPSS and R.3.2.3. In general, the researchers of the different institutions state that they totally disagree with the fact that the intellectual capital of their institutions presents these characteristics. In general, HEIs do not comply with being an open and flexible model, but it is required to be more systematic, adaptive, dynamic and innovative. Keywords: Intellectual Capital. Education. Research. Scientific Production. University. Sao descritas as caracteristicas do modelo de capital intelectual para o processo de pesquisa nas instituicoes de Ensino Superior da Cidade de Cartagena. Pesquisa com uma abordagem quantitativa, positivista, analitica, desenhos de campo, de forma nao experimental, transversal ou transacional, tipo descritivo. O grupo da populacao de estudo e composto por vice-reitorias da area de pesquisa, coordenacao, sede ou lideres da area de pesquisa, que sao responsaveis pela gestao e viabilidade dos processos de pesquisa em 7 universidades de Cartagena de Indias, pesquisa, um instrumento foi utilizado com alternativas de respostas fechadas do tipo Likert, a estatistica dos dados foi sistematizada descritiva no Microsoft Excel, SPSS e R.3.2.3. Em geral, os pesquisadores das diferentes instituicoes afirmam discordar totalmente do fato de que o capital intelectual de suas instituicoes apresente essas caracteristicas. Em geral, as IES nao cumprem o requisito de serem um modelo aberto e flexivel, mas devem ser mais sistematicas, adaptativas, dinamicas e inovadoras. Palavras-chave: Capital Intelectual. Educacao.
