description | This study examined factors associated with adverse sexual outcomes among 24,963, 18-24 year old undergraduate college students participating in the Spring, 2004 National College Health Assessment Survey. Alcohol use, mental health problems, and higher rates of perceived peer sexual activity were associated with increased odds of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and unintended pregnancy. In contrast, living on campus reduced students' odds for STI acquisition, and high grade point average was associated with reduced odds for unintended pregnancies. Results suggest that factors associated with college students' sexual health behaviors are complex and often interrelated and deserve further and more in-depth study. |
