Summary:The study is concerned with the knowledge and prevention of filariasis in Okigwe Local Government Area of Imo State in Nigeria. This study examined the relationship between the people's knowledge of the disease and their ability to prevent it. It discovered that, it is poverty of the actual knowledge of the causes of the disease that results to inability to prevent it. It adopted the vicious circle theory to explain why the poor are prone to the disease. Finally, it gave recommendations on how effective control program could be carried out in the locality.
