Summary:Reaction of the methyl esters of aroylpyruvic acids with mixtures of 4-(2-aminoethyl)benzenesulfonamide and an aromatic aldehyde was used to synthesize 1-[2-(4-aminosulfonylphenyl)ethyl]-5-aryl-4-aroyl-3-hydroxy- 3-pyrrolin-2-ones. The structures of these compounds were verified by IR and 1 H NMR spectroscopy and mass spectrometry. Their antibacterial activity was studied.
