Description
Summary:Adopting several technological innovations, including those relating to governance structures, Mato Grosso has been excelling as the biggest producer of cotton from Brazil. Based on a systematic sample of units located in the southeast of the state and also using the logistic regression model, this paper investigates the influence of time of experience, of acreage and yield in choosing two governance structures: vertical integration and long term contracts. Main findings show that acreage resulted in only one explanatory variable with statistical significance. Moreover, certain characteristics of the transactions and of the economic agents turn these two unique governance structures of large units, directed to the achievement of the minimum cost of transaction.
