Summary: | While relatively little research has been conducted on buyer-supplier relationships in small business, perhaps even less has been done on how to assess the level of purchasing maturity in small businesses, which is the degree to which small businesses have linked their purchasing decisions to the strategic needs and performance of their firms. Using data collected from a cross-sectional sample of small businesses in four NAICS sub-sectors, factors that impact the level of purchasing maturity in small businesses are identified, differences between small business and large business purchasing development are highlighted, and a three-level small business purchasing maturity model is proposed. |
