Description
Summary:•Free-standing small-scale multi-drum column was investigated.•The effect of the joint type on the seismic behaviour was investigated.•Columns with three types of joints exposed to three different accelerograms.•Columns loaded only with their own weight and with additional weight on the top.•Joint and accelerogram type have great effect on behaviour and bearing capacity. The results of a shake-table study of the effects of the joint type on the seismic behaviour of free-standing small-scale multi-drum column are presented. Columns with three types of joints, loaded only with their own weight and with additional weight on the top, were exposed to three different accelerograms. The acceleration amplitude was successively increased to the columns failure. It was concluded that both the joint type and the type of accelerogram have great effects on the behaviour and bearing capacity of a multi-drum column. It is believed that the experimental database can be useful in validating numerical models for the seismic analysis of multi-drum columns.
