Description
Summary:Introduction: Age related changes in gastro intestinal tract functioning are widely discussed as aging is accompanied with diseases occurrence (colitis, constipation, etc.) The aim of the study was to investigate influence of multiprobiotic on age related changes of gastric secretion and net absorption of rats. Methods: Study was carried out on white nonlinear female rats. Rats were divided into 2 groups: control (1st) and experimental (2nd). The rats of 2nd group were treated with multiprobiotic > concentrated (M) per os periodically along the life. From each group at the age of 3, 12, 18, 21 and 24 month animals were taken for experimental tests. Gastric acid secretion (basal (BAS) and carbachol-stimulated (CAS) was measured in acute experiments by method of perfusion of isolated stomach by Ghosh and Shild (1958). Gastric pepsin secretion (basal (BPS) and carbachol-stimulated (CPS) was studied by calorimetric method by Tin (1986). Transport of water and electrolytes was measured by method of perfusion of isolated colon. Results: BAS increased in 12 month compare to 3 month old rats, than remained at the same level. CAS of 1st group increased in 18 and 21 month compare to 3 month old rats, in 24 month decreased to the level of 3, 12 month. M administration didn't influence on BAS except 12 month old group. Also only in 18 month old rats of 2nd group CAS differ from control of same age. BPS was gradually decreasing in control group beginning from 12 month. In 12 month old rats of 2nd group BPS was increased by 87.7% (p < 0.01) compare to control rats of same age, in other age groups multiprobiotic consumption didn't influence on data. CPS decreased only in 21, 24 month old rats. Periodic M consumption didn't effect on CPS. In 21 and 24 month old rats absorption of water and [Na.sup.+] and [Cl.sup.-] ions was increased but total flow of [K.sup.+] ions had no significant changes either in control or in experimental groups. Periodic introduction of M decreased water absorption, [Na.sup.+] and [Cl.sup.-] in colon of 18, 21 and 24 months old rats compare to control groups of same age. Conclusion: Periodic introduction of M to the rats during the life didn't significant influence on gastric acid secretion and gastric pepsin secretion. The enhance of water, [Na.sup.+] and [Cl.sup.-] absorption in 21 and 24 month old may be one of the reason of constipation occurrence. Treatment with M prevented the aging changes of water, [Na.sup.+] an
