Description
Summary:Agribusiness is currently one of the main sectors of the Brazilian economy and its potential is evidenced by the growth in participation in GDP and the availability of natural resources and favorable edaphoclimatic conditions for production. Brazil stands out as the third largest fruit producer in the world, but with a low percentage of participation in the export market. There is a potential growing market, which is the production and consumption of exotic fruits such as pitaya, mangosteen, and grenadilla, among others. The aim of this study was to characterize the profile of pitaya fruit producers present at the "II National Meeting of Pitaya Producers". To this end, an exploratory research was carried out and a structured questionnaire was applied to rural producers participating in the event. The results showed that, of the interviewed producers, approximately half are aged between 31 and 40 years and the majority are owners and live on the property, with a high level of education, as 76% are graduates and postgraduates. The majority, 80% of those interviewed, look to the culture of pitaya for an opportunity to diversify production and increase their source of income. The most used channel in the search for solutions and information for culture was the internet (61%) followed by television (14%) and technical assistance (7%). The main difficulties for producers are related to production (66%) followed by the management and commercialization of the harvest (28%). The most used marketing channel is direct sales to consumers and supermarket chains, followed by sales to CEASA and open markets. Keywords: Exotic Fruit. Cactaceae. Dragon Fruit. Marketplace.
