Summary: | Objectives: To analyze the management of nursing care in the care of acute renal patients undergoing hemodialysis in the ICU; To describe the management resources used by nephrology nursing staff in the care of renal patients undergoing hemodialysis in the ICU. Methodology: A descriptive study with a qualitative approach was carried out in the nephrology service with fifteen (15) nursing staff from this sector, using a semi-structured interview script and a sociodemographic questionnaire. The data was collected between May and July 2021. The participants' discourse was analyzed using the IRAMUTEQ[R] program. Results: The program forms classes based on the relationship between the various Initial Context Units--ICUs processed and which have homogeneous words. In order to classify and relate the classes, the ICUs are grouped according to the occurrences of the words by means of their roots, giving rise to the elementary context units (ECUs), which results in the creation of a dictionary with reduced forms. After processing and grouping the occurrences of words, the descending hierarchical classification (DHC) creates the dendrogram of classes, a figure that shows the classes, demonstrates the connection between them, each class has a different color, and the ECUs of each class have the same color as the class. After analysis, it was possible to extract 5 classes: Management knowledge; "Moment experienced"; "Difficulties"; "Work process"; "Service routines". Conclusion: The study highlighted the importance of nephrology nursing staff managing the care provided to patients with AKI, revealing through the participants' statements the complex managerial context involved in providing this care. The weaknesses go beyond the human or material spheres, and also cover the legal spheres, as we still don't have our own legislation for the care of this specific patient. Even though the pandemic has made dialysis services essential in the acute phase of the disease, our ordinances have still not made the necessary progress. The study had limitations due to the number of samples and the scarcity of published material available for research on the role of nephrology nursing staff in managing care for acute renal patients.
