Summary: | The main aim of this research is to determine the understanding of school administrators regarding classroom management and their attitudes towards encountered- difficulties, as well as to provide coping strategies to teachers facing these problems. The study group of the current research consisted of a total of 20 school administrators, including 5 principals and 15 vice-principals, working in secondary education institutions during the spring semester of the 2022-2023 academic year, affiliated with the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of Northern Cyprus. A qualitative research model was applied in the study, specifically using the snowball model from qualitative research models. A semi-structured interview form was used as the data collection tool. The obtained data were categorized into themes and interpreted. According to the data, school administration eased their views on the disruptions in classroom management caused by overcrowded cl ass rooms, a high number of foreign students, lack of parental involvement, the presence of students causing discipline problems, as well as the students' lack of knowledge of rules and responsibility, which became more evident with the onset of the pandemic. School administrators stated that the problems encountered were related to inadequate in infrastructure and students' lack of respect towards teachers. They suggested that teachers should participate in in-service training programs to enhance their classroom management skills and emphasized the need for the establishment of new secondary education institutions. |
