Summary: | Cobalt-rich pentlandite is associated with Cu and Fe ores at the Outokumpu mine and other localities in northern Finland. The mineral occurs as separate crystals and exsolved lamellae. Chemical and x-ray powder data are given. Optical properties and etch reactions are similar to those of Ni-pentlandite; grinding hardness is slightly lower than pyrrhotite. A bright blue stain is obtained with HNO3 for Co-pentlandite, but a brown stain is obtained for Ni-pentlandite. |
