Comparison of two matching techniques for UHF RFID tags

Description
Summary:This Letter reports a comparison between shunt‐series inductance (SSI) and inductively coupled loop (ICL) matching circuits for ultra high frequency (UHF) Radio Frequency IDentification (RFID) tags. It is shown analytically that an optimized ICL circuit is fully equivalent to an optimized SSI circuit provided that some adjustments are made on the dipole antenna geometry. Numerical and experimental characterizations of the RFID tags built with both topologies confirm this equivalence.
