Description
Summary:The case report on preoperative joint aspiration in the diagnosis of non-acute hip and knee prosthetic joint infections is offered. It defines periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) as a common complication that may occur following prosthesis implantation. The diagnosis of the condition is usually easy when the infection is acute, when related to bacteremia or when it develops days or weeks after surgery. However, it is challenging when the infection evolves for several months before being diagnosed. It mentions the importance of accurate preoperative diagnosis for an optimal surgical and medical management of the infection.
