Is direct anterior approach plus dual-mobility cup a good match?
Using the anterior approach for primary total hip arthroplasty(THA) theoretically decreases the risk of dislocation. In a study bySiguier et al. [1] of 1037 primary THAs, the dislocation rate wasonly 0.96%, i.e. lower than with the posterior approach, which wasassociated with a 4% dislocation rate i...

Summary: | Using the anterior approach for primary total hip arthroplasty(THA) theoretically decreases the risk of dislocation. In a study bySiguier et al. [1] of 1037 primary THAs, the dislocation rate wasonly 0.96%, i.e. lower than with the posterior approach, which wasassociated with a 4% dislocation rate in a recent comparative studyby Tsukada et al. [2]. Nevertheless, residual instability persists insome patients. Mandelli et al. [3] recently reported a 2% dislocationrate after THA via the anterior approach in 97 patients, most ofwhom were treated for hip fractures. |
