This paper shows the development of a new microfluidic cell for the detection of fluorescent compounds at sub-μgL−1 concentrations. The microfluidic cell is calibrated for the detection of Formaldehyde through its reaction with Fluoral P which produces the fluorescent DDL (3,5-diacetyl-1,4-dihydrolutidine). After a comparison with a commercialized fluorescence cell, the microfluidic cell was found to be much better in terms of volume, sensitivity, renewing time and price.
