Description
Summary:This study was concerned with the levels of sport participation among the youth of Caen, France. The survey in the form of a journal kept over a week by 728 pupils of Caen schools assessed the extent to which the subjects participated in formal organized sport and informal sport during their leisure time after school. As expected, boys participated more in sport than girls. The majority of the active girls participated in formal settings. Social class was the most dominant factor determining whether the subjects participated in sport and whether such participation was in formal or informal sport. The implications of the results are discussed.
