description The transport sector is the fastest growing consumer of energy and producer of greenhouse gases in the European Union. With new emission regulation these days the potential application for LNG are expanding. LNG provides a greener alternative to other fossil fuels, which can significantly contribute to improve European air quality and to reduce the existing oil dependency. In Europe receiving terminals are mainly situated in Belgium, France, Greece, Italy, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Turkey and United Kingdom. However, infrastructure for proper function of LNG is still missing in central and Easter Europe. The aim of this paper draws basic properties of LNG as well as analyse the overview of LNG infrastructure in Europe.
