Summary: | Today, social science research has been changed by the accessibility and diversity of data. Not only does administrative information in the form of panel data give social scientists the opportunity for causal inference through quasi-experimental methods, but the abundance of data also facilitates the collaboration between social science and computer science, giving birth to computational sociology and rendering social science closer to daily life. While many research fields have mastered data science to develop new educational programs, there are few actions taken in the field of education to prepare the next generation of researchers for the data era. This article summarizes the methodological weakness in current educational research and lays out possible solutions using new techniques. The article concludes by offering suggestions for the talent cultivation in education research |
