description | In comparison to the conventional microcontroller-based systems used in industrial automation, Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) becomes each year more popular as Central Processing Unit for smart devices. The lack of an operating system is an advantage in this case and separate functions can be processed individually and in the same time on one FPGA based circuit. Also it offers reduced difficulty in obtaining regulatory approvals and lessens the implementation costs. The paper approaches a method to obtain variable voltage levels with a device connected by an industrial network to a host computer. It`s structure comprises a buck converter and a Transducer Interface Module (TIM) based on a FPGA which receives commands from a Network Capable Application Processor thus making it compatible with the industrial IEEE 1451 standard specifications. |
