Summary:In this paper, a novel zero-IF 24-GHz frequency scanning Doppler radar is developed and employed as a vibrometer for the detection of multiple vibrating targets without contact. Exploiting the beam squint of the antennas, the environment can be sensed in different directions by selecting the operating frequency of the transceiver. This frequency scanning radar sensor is a novel and promising alternative to multiple antenna systems. In this work, the frequency scanning feature is combined with a mechanical scan method to reconstruct 2D images of the environment. This research is important to provide directional non-contact monitoring for vital signs from multiple subjects as well as for monitoring of river surface velocity.
