Summary: | Bidirectional DC-DC transformer converters with center tapped circuit are useful in low voltage (LV), high current application. In terms of volume, price, and efficiency, it is appealing. However, switches connected to the center-tapped circuit might be see a voltage spike under parameter variation of the resonant components, when synchronous rectification (SR) is not done properly. This happens because forceful stoppage of the circulating current path. To solve this, numerous studies using SR technology with hardware sensing for unidirectional application have been conducted. The SR technique with hardware sensing is difficult since the SR bridge needs to be changed under various power directions. This article suggests a center-tapped transformer bidirectional dc-dc converter architecture. To prevent turn-off voltage spikes, In LV side, active clamp circuits made of capacitors connected in series with auxiliary switches are placed in parallel with the power switches. In this topology, switches are turn-on at zero voltage switching (ZVS). Due to this, we can minimize the electromagnetic interference (EMI) and switching losses. |
