Summary: | Previous research on the use of sensitive ground-fault interrupting devices on mine utilization systems to improve personnel safety is reviewed. The problems associated with the application of sensitive ground-fault protection (voltage and current considerations, transients, external-flux interference, common-mode currents, harmonics, and leakage currents) are then presented and analyzed. Based upon this information, an experimental approach to sensitive ground-fault interrupting-device evaluation is outlined and the results of conducting these tests on five existing ground-fault interrupters are summarized.
