Summary: | The reduction of energy cost through conservation of energy use or load management in electric rail systems can be accomplished using vehicle performance modification. A performance modification strategy is one in which energy consumption is reduced at the expense of increased running time by operating the trains in a different performance mode. Simple performance modification strategies are reduced accelerating rate and top speed reduction, while more complex ones in terms of their implementation capabilities are the various forms of coasting. Finally, the ultimate class of strategies is optimum performance reduction, where maximum energy savings are obtained at minimum increase in running time. |
