Summary: | In the novel technology of multilevel inverters for battery electric vehicles, the power electronics are highly integrated into the battery. This high level of integration requires special considerations on how to measure the efficiency of such a system. Therefore different approaches to determine the efficiency of a multilevel inverter are discussed. As a feasible way to assess the vehicle's emissions a drive cycle will be run on a test bench, with the Worldwide Harmonised Light-Duty Vehicles Test Procedure (WLTP) chosen as the global standard for measuring fuel consumption, emissions, and electric range. The study presents a new approach to evaluate a multilevel inverter in terms of its efficiency and presents a Hardware in the Loop (HIL) test bench for an electric vehicle powertrain. The accompanying efficiency analysis confirms previous results found in the literature. |
