Summary: | A wideband circularly polarized (CP) antenna with conical-beam radiation is designed by a circular monopolar patch antenna (CMPA) with a tapered feeding, eight shorting pins, and eight sickle-shaped branches in the ground plane. Firstly, the TM01 and TM02 modes and the sickle-shaped branches are presented to generate the radiated θ-polarization and φ-polarization components, respectively. Secondly, a tapered feeding probe with a larger radius is then employed to reduce the input resistance and improve the impedance matching of this antenna fed at the center. Therefore, the proposed antenna has a 10dB impedance bandwidth of 46.8% and a 3dB axial ratio (AR) bandwidth of 36.7%. Consequently, the attractive performance of the antenna with high impulse signal fidelity (97.4%) demonstrates its capacity for impulse-radio ultra-wideband (IR-UWB) positioning applications in a multipath interference environment. |
