Summary: | Research and experiments were conducted on the irrigation system at the Barbara Ford Peacebuilding Center, a non-governmental, non-profit institution founded in Quiche, Guatemala, by the Sisters of Charity of New York. Reducing irrigation pressure and frequency, collecting rainwater, and treating greywater for irrigation were found to feasibly conserve water, promote plant life, and mitigate electricity costs. A sustainable irrigation system design and watering schedule is outlined. Water tanks of various materials and magnitudes are compared on collection capabilities, initial costs, and investment break-even points. |
