Description
Summary:Air pollution poses a significant health risk to people all over the world. The mean fine particulate matter in Kenya is well above the recommended level indicating very poor air quality. A large amount of this particulate matter is emitted by boda boda motorbike taxis that are primarily used for transportation. Previously, there have been environmentally focused efforts that have successfully initiated change within the Kenyan community. To test the feasibility of a similar effort focused on air pollution, experiments using QR codes, focus groups, and typical surveying methods were used to gather information within Kisumu, Kenya. Using these methods, unanticipated technical difficulties arose. With the data that was obtained it was found that most Kenyans did not prioritise air pollution issues. With this information we concluded that there would be a low probability that a grass roots air-pollution campaign in Kisumu, Kenya would initiate change.
