Summary: | Over the last few years, research related to multilevel converters has been exponentially rising with reliability being the main concern. In this paper, a new fault-tolerant boost multilevel inverter (FT-BMLI) has been proposed. During normal operation, the proposed FT-BMLI can operate in two different configurations namely: with either seven-level triple gain (7L-3G) or nine-level twice gain (9L-2G). In the case of a single switch open-circuit fault (OCF), the converter can generate at least five number of levels. The proposed FT-BMLI has been analyzed for double switch OCF. A comparison table considering similar topologies has been provided and the advantages of the proposed topology have been compared with the other existing topologies. Finally, experimental results have been included in the paper to show the performance of the proposed topology in the case of OCF. |
