Summary: | This paper presents the application of the adaptive noncommunication protection technique to high impedance fault conditions. In this technique, protection relays make operate or restraint decisions, adapting to system and fault conditions, without the need for communication links. The neglecting of communication links to signal the remote end relay is achieved by detecting the remote breaker operation to determine whether the protected line section is in a balanced operation condition or not. An algorithm based on the symmetric components is proposed to detect and identify the balance condition of the system during the fault. The paper is focused on the responses of the technique to high impedance fault conditions. |
