Summary: | The most important regulatory function of the human body is breathing, which is provided by the respiratory system. In clinical practice, respiratory monitoring is used to obtain information about respiratory health and make diagnoses. The respiratory system can be assessed using a variety of parameters, but the most important is respiratory rate. Analysis of respiratory rate is important in patients with chronic diseases, athletes and rehabilitation patients. In recent years, wearable devices for continuous monitoring of physiological parameters in everyday life have gained momentum. Progress in the field of portable cardiovascular monitoring has reached an unprecedented level, but systems for direct monitoring of respiratory system function are still lacking. Therefore, this paper presents a wearable and portable system for continuous assessment of respiratory rate. The study focuses on the design, development, and validation of a novel digital device. The results of the study confirm the effectiveness and accuracy of the device in both static and dynamic conditions. However, refinements and improvements to the system are also needed. The developed device can be used in clinical practice and at home for long-term monitoring of respiratory rate. |
