Summary: | The basic binary modulation techniques, namely, ASK, FSK and PSK are seldom used in standard digital communications as they offer low bitrates. To achieve higher bitrates, sophisticated strategies like M-PSK and M-QAM are used, and M-FSK is not favored as this requires higher bandwidth than the other multi-level schemes. The performance analysis of the proposed Multi-Amplitude Multi-Frequency (MA-MF) modulation scheme has been conducted to investigate its suitability in possible bit-rate compression of digital signals. Here, parallel single-bin FFT algorithms are used instead of the traditional detection schemes, and multiple modulation frequencies are chosen to be the exact harmonic frequencies of the FFT. The proposed scheme appears to offer improved BER performance over the former. It has also been identified that if all possible frequencies of the FFT window are chosen for modulation, the proposed scheme leads to a scheme like OFDM, which is commonly used for multiplexing multiple digital channels. The differences and similarities between the proposed MA-MF and OFDM schemes are also presented. |
