Summary:New solutions for the functionality testing procedure and a method for automated smart meter user interface testing are presented. The proposed method can help to verify devices' functionality when using complicated user menus. The method uses these automated testing possibilities: UI (user interface) control algorithm, menu description as graph and navigation by specially formed test cases, image processing, and object detection. The image processing algorithm was chosen according to obtained experimental results comparing methods - normalized cross-correlation (NCC) and edge extraction (corner points (CP)). The NCC method is faster and deals much better with noises introduced to experimentally taken images.
