Summary: | Nowadays, wind energy is becoming increasingly popular among primary energy sources, and wind turbines have been in high demand in previous years. This paper studies the permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) wind turbine due to its high ratio torque to its inertia, dense power capacity, gearless design, and more efficiently at low rotation speeds with less maintenance. Extracting power from the wind turbines and injecting it into the grid is the responsibility of the power converter controller. This paper presented three types of control for PMSG-based wind turbines: field-oriented control (FOC), direct current control (DCC), and model predictive control (MPC). This research involves the dynamic behavior of wind turbine with PMSG for each control strategy under different wind speeds and prediction horizons. Detailed models of the PMSG-based wind turbine are simulated in MATLAB/ SIMULINK. The results highlighted the performance of the three types of controls against changes in wind speed. |
