Summary: | This research work presents the cold electron emission from uncoated Alumel tips, with apex radii in the micrometer range, produced using an electrochemical etching technique using phosphoric acid (H 3 PO 4 ) solution. The emission characteristics of the Alumel tips were studied in this investigation utilizing current-voltage characteristics (I-V), and Fowler-Nordheim (FN) type plots, electron emission spatial distribution analysis. Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) was utilized to examine the chemical composition of the tip, as well as scanning electron microscopy was employed to evaluate the tip surface shape. The results show that the relationship between current and voltage is quasi-Ohmic. The F-N plot operated at low voltages. In addition, emission current exhibiting a bright and stable spatial distribution. |
