description The continuous growth of renewable energy sources (RES) has caused challenges related to the voltage deviation at distribution grids. To address this, coordinated grid operation utilizing flexibility of the demand response (DR) has been attracting interest. To utilize the DR flexibility, the amount of DR reserved must be determined in advance while considering the uncertainty of the RES output. While robust optimization (RO) is one approach to dealing with the uncertainty, it suffers from over-conservativeness. Convex hull uncertainty sets (CHUS) help reduce the over-conservativeness by considering the correlation between the time and spatial dependency of the RES output. Against this background, we developed a novel scaling method for CHUS based on the distance between the center line and the vertexes of the original convex hull. The unique feature of our method is that the degree of conservativeness can be controlled by a scaling parameter. We also came up with a full mathematical formulation of the RO model to minimize the total grid operation cost. A case study was evaluated with a modified IEEE 34 bus feeder model to evaluate the grid operating costs and schedules under different scaling parameter settings, and the results demonstrate that the calculation time was reasonable.
