Summary: | The generation and tunability of optical frequency combs (OFCs) in a semiconductor laser (SL) with external optical feedback (EOF) are investigated numerially. An SL with EOF is featured with a minimal part-count scheme, this system provides ease of implementation, simplicity in configuration, and cost-effectiveness. A bifurcation diagram is developed to reveal a quasi-periodic period-3 (QP-P3) window suitable for OFC generation. With the SL-EOF operated in the P3 region, the OFC repetition rate can be continuously tuned from 649.83MHz to 652.57MHz by fine-tuning the external cavity length. Our findings offer a new solution to generate a OFC with controllable characteristics. |
